Delta Variant

The SARS-COV-2 Delta variant, also known as B.1.617.2 Lineage,

It is a variant of the B.1.617 lineage of SARS-COV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.

It was first detected in India at the end of 2020 and was named “Delta Variant” by the World Health Organization on May 31, 2021. The virus, which undergoes different mutations in different countries during the epidemic, also causes changes in the effectiveness rates of vaccines.

This variant, which is seen in more than 65 countries in the world, was also found in Turkey in the past months. The Delta variant is 60% more contagious than the "Alpha" variant, known as the UK variant. However, the symptoms of the disease are the same as with other Coronaviruses.

It manifests itself with symptoms such as stomach, head and sore throat, nausea-diarrhea, vomiting, high fever. Loss of taste and smell remains in the background. With this mutation, the virus has increased its ability to evade the antibody. Survivors may be reinfected with the Delta variant. According to the results of two studies conducted separately in the Kingdom and Scotland, BIONTech-Pfizer and Astra Zeneca vaccines provide protection against the Delta variant, but not enough scientific studies have been done for Synovac. Even if vaccinated, following the “Mask-distance-hand hygiene” rules will prevent the spread of the Delta variant.
